Photographing newborns can be interesting. Even though all the babies are fed before we begin the shoot, some don't want to go along with my silly ideas, poses, and apparel. I am never quite sure what mood these babies will be in before I arrive, and the mystery is an exciting part of the experience. No matter what mood, we always get some expressive and fun photos.
Baby D's shoot was a blast! He slept through almost the entire thing! Even when I thought I was pushing my luck, his eyes stayed closed, letting me shoot away. I was rather amazed with his patience and tolerance. Thanks for a great shoot B family!

Baby B aka "Squishy"

The sneak preview of Baby B might have given you the impression that she's a screamer. In actuality she was a pretty calm little baby. The few times she did get fussy was most likely my fault for putting silly hats on her in middle of summer! Luckily her fantastic parents have a knack for calming the little lady down and we got some cute shots where she looks peaceful and sleepy.

Good Times at The San Diego County Fair

The San Diego County Fair is officially over. I managed to find time to go to the fair during it's last weekend in town. Taking photos at the fair was almost overstimulating! There was so much going on I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted to photograph! That isn't necessarily a bad thing though. :)

I've always loved the photobooths. I want to own one!!

I am blessed to have a great family of in-laws and when we all get together we make some fun memories. Last month my youngest brother-in-law graduated from college. We traveled north for a weekend celebration at Rancho Oso followed by the graduation ceremony at UCSB. Congrats, Kellen! We are so proud of you!!

Groundhog Day

Last September my sisters and I flew to Pennsylvania to visit our grandmother and uncle. One afternoon we all took a drive to Punxsutawney! Since today is Groundhog Day I thought it was fitting to include some photos of our time in Groundhog Town.

They take groundhogs seriously in this town. Even restaurants had groundhogs in the tile!
We found a Punxsutawney Phil statue in the park.

Then we realized they have groundhogs all over town! Take a look...

Unfortunately for people in PA, Phil saw his shadow so they have 6 more weeks of winter.
Have fun with that. We may not have Superbowl champions out here in San Diego, but we have summer weather in February!!!

We finally took our Christmas tree down today. Even though the holidays were over it was nice seeing our tree lit up every morning and every evening. We kind of miss it now that it's gone. That part of the room looks so empty. I felt like we were the last people to put away the Christmas decor until I was walking through Balboa Park and I saw this:

My new camera arrived Wednesday. I've been dying to use it but I have not had free time during the day to experiment with it. I've been forced to try to shoot pictures of the cat...again. But without her I would be taking pictures of random things around the house so I am appreciative that we have a cat, and one that does not run away from when when I stick a camera in her face. Stay tuned to this blog in the coming weeks. I hope to post some new pictures of things besides Pita the cat!

Little kids smile, laugh, and look happy most of the time, until you have a camera in front of your face and you want to capture those smiles, laughs, and happy looks on "film". Then they don't want to cooperate. It took a little while but eventually Cameron got used to Auntie Christine with that big black box covering her face and she even let out a few smiles. It was a fun day at the beach and my friend got a couple pictures that were worthy of gracing their Christmas Card. Mission Accomplished!

RB Healing Field

This time 1 year ago Rancho Bernardo and other areas of San Diego were hit with some of the worst fires in California history. I grew up in RB so it was surreal to see my home town on television and the people of the community going through something so devestating. Last Friday I went to RB Community Fields and volunteered my time to help put up over 1,000 flags which represented the homes around San Diego that were damaged and lost during the fires. Only one month before election day and candidates are on the home stretch of their campaign trails. It's hard to travel one block in my neighborhood these days without coming across campaign signage.
Today on my run I saw some typical lawn signs.

I saw a protected window sign.
And then, totally unexpectedly I found the hidden, super sleuth sign!

Halloween Memories

The Holiday: Halloween

My fellow kindergartners and I were very excited to wear our Halloween costumes to school. We arrived to class and Mrs. Frat had everyone gather together around her [she was dressed up like a strawberry, it was an adorable costume] so we could get a picture of the class in our costumes, looking awesome.

---FAST FORWARD 15 YEARS---

Going through some old photographs I come across the kindergarten Halloween picture with Mrs. Frat. The memories come pouring back and I feel I've found a treasure by coming across this picture. Looking at the familiar 5 year old faces I don't see my own. I scan the crowd again. Nope, I can't find me! Where am I? I did not stay home sick, I vividly remember that day. Larry, a boy in my class did not dress up so Mrs. Frat went classroom to classroom to find an extra costume. She found one and made Larry wear it. He was a red crayon. Larry did not look happy about it. Back to the story- I can not find my face in the crowd, then I realize...I am the ghost! But my costume consists of an old bed sheet, with eye holes cut out. You can not see my face, you would never know it was me under that sheet. If anyone else has a copy of this picture they would never remember me because I am practically invisible [very ghost like, I guess!].

In honor of 5 year old Christine's brilliant (not) costume idea I've made some Halloween cards. You can find them in my gallery. Enjoy!

Watch out everyone! I am going to be UNUSUALLY successful! I have been patiently waiting and hoping that I would someday be successful in something. Sometimes I got worried that it wasn't going to happen for me. Then I got this message from my fortune cookie and it confirmed I am going to make it! WOO! I just wish this told me WHEN it was going to happen. Also, I will be successful in business but that is rather vague. hmf.

My cure for road rage

On my way to meet some girlfriends for dinner I had to share the road with some horrible drivers. I try to remain calm but some people really should not be allowed to drive. I arrived early to the restaurant so I killed some time by taking a walk down to the beach. I was fortunate enough to witness a stunning sunset. Seeing something so beautiful helped me let go of the stress, gave me some peace and gave me back my sanity. Phew!
